Pai babado

Last Saturday, 11 June, was one of those days that I reserve the right to be a doting parent ... the day that a new book by Luis Sepúlveda and illustrated by me, was officially launched. And in honor of this wonderful day, I made this little booktrailer book.

The baby is called "História de um acão chamado Leal" - published by Porto publisher with ISBN 978-972-0-04818-9 - and I can say straight away that this new project was a very difficult delivery, the most difficult of the 3 books already illustrated by me for this author. In many ways, this book fiddled with old wounds that I thought already healed, and contains all the ingredients that make me love the writing of Luis Sepúlveda since I was 15 years old, the ingredients that make it the acclaimed writer who he is. Being a book that tells the Mapuche culture, he made me a research effort much more intense than in other projects, to make these paper characters even more credible. Being a book that tells the Mapuche culture, that fact forced me to do a research effort much more intense than in other projects, to make these paper characters even more credible. Their handcraft, their weaving, their clothes, the sports they practice, the tools they use, their ways of living, their music, the art they produce, their spiritual and physical connection to nature that welcomes all .. . all of this served to get as far as possible to this wonderful culture that lives on the west coast of Chile, and since the mid-nineteenth century, thy saw their lands being invaded by more or less obscure interests moved the money.

A thing I promise...

... This story will make your hearts beat much faster.

You may know a little more about the birth of this book and on Luis Sepúlveda here, here and here.
